In this post, we'll explore different ways to display these festive guardians, from classic placements to more creative arrangements. So, whether you're looking to enhance your storefront's curb appeal or create a magical atmosphere in your living room, let's dive into the world of giant nutcracker styling!
The Charming History of Nutcrackers: A Brief Journey
Before we explore the art of styling, let’s take a brief journey into the history of nutcrackers. Originating in Germany, these figures were initially designed as functional tools for cracking nuts. Over time, they became popular folk art pieces and were believed to bring good luck and protect the home from evil spirits. The nutcracker as we know it today, with its decorative uniform and toy soldier aesthetic, became a popular Christmas symbol in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, particularly in America. Today, they are beloved decorations that add a touch of nostalgia and magic to the holiday season.
Flanking Fireplaces: Creating a Traditional and Cozy Ambience
One of the most classic and elegant ways to style giant nutcrackers is by flanking your fireplace. This timeless arrangement creates a charming and welcoming focal point in your living room. Placing a majestic nutcracker on either side of the mantle instantly adds a touch of sophistication and festive cheer. Choose nutcrackers that complement your existing decor and fireplace size for a cohesive and balanced look. This setup is perfect for creating a warm and cozy atmosphere that’s ideal for gathering with family and friends.
Porch Decor: Guiding Your Guests with Style

For a grand and welcoming entrance, consider styling giant nutcrackers on your front porch. This is a fantastic way to greet guests and add a festive touch to your home's exterior. You can create a classic symmetric look by placing a nutcracker on each side of your front door. This balanced arrangement conveys a sense of traditional holiday charm and elegance. Alternatively, for a more modern or relaxed feel, try an asymmetrical setup by placing different-sized nutcrackers at varying heights on your porch. Add some festive garlands, lights, and a charming wreath for a truly spectacular display that will capture the attention of all who visit.
Lighting Your Nutcrackers: Creating a Magical Evening Display
To truly make your giant nutcrackers shine, lighting is essential! Here are some tips for lighting your nutcrackers for a magical nighttime visibility:
-
Spotlighting: Use focused spotlights to illuminate your nutcrackers from below or above. This can dramatic shadows and highlight the intricate details of their uniforms. Adjust the angle of the light for different effects.
-
Up-Lighting: Place warm, white lights at the base of your nutcrackers and point them upwards. This creates a soft, glowing effect that looks particularly enchanting when paired with other festive lighting.
-
Fairy Lights: For a touch of sparkle and magic, consider wrapping your nutcrackers in delicate fairy lights. This works well for both indoor and outdoor displays and adds a charming and whimsical feel. Ensure all electrical components are weatherproof for outdoor use.
Conclusion
With their majestic presence and rich history, giant nutcrackers are a fantastic way to make a statement this holiday season. Whether you’re flanking your fireplace or creating a grand entrance on your porch, these festive guardians add a touch of magic and charm that will delight all who see them. So, embrace the grandeur, get creative with your styling, and let your giant nutcrackers bring a touch of holiday wonder to your home or business!

The Production of Fiberglass Products for Christmas Night Inc. Maggie’s Blog No.11
Probably our Christmas Night Inc. customers do not realize or even think about what goes into making a fiberglass Santa or Toy Soldier.
Our factory in the Philippines (Heinimex) provides us with high quality detailed premium statues of Christmas Figures. During my recent visit to our factory, I took a close look at the time consuming and painstaking process of preparing a Christmas figure for export to our warehouse in New York.
A mold is made from a master or model. The mold consists of a rigid outer shell and a silicone rubber skin. Ideally the mold has two halves, and it may include additional pieces for legs or ears on a Reindeer for example. A thin layer of resin composite is applied to the inside of the rubber skin of each mold half. If a metal or wood insert, is required, it will be laid in the mold.

Then a layer of fiberglass mat is added to the inner mold surface. The fiberglass is saturated in resin and pounded to eliminate any air pockets or bubbles. This fiberglass resin process is repeated until the required strength of wall is achieved. Security/ground plates are fitted into the base of the product during this process.

Both halves of the mold are clamped together. The mold is left for about one hour to cure, after which the rigid mold is removed, and the rubber mold is carefully pulled off. There will be a seam where both halves of the mold were joined. Excess resin will be trimmed off.

Now the mold passes to repair department. Here the seam lines need to be filled and sanded and in the case of a reindeer hair will need to be drilled back in. With a Reindeer two of the legs, one front and one back, usually diagonally opposite each other, will have to be attached to the Reindeer body. There will also be filler, sanding and hair to complete the attachment.

If you look closely at the photo above, you will see the security/ground plates on the feet of the animal. Below is a closer look at a security plate and an example of a stake that could be used for securing the product to a soft surface. Bolts can be used to secure it to a hard surface.

A lot of sanding is required especially in flat surfaced products like the sleigh.

Once the product surface is perfected it passes on to the paint department. A primer is applied. Then in the case of a Reindeer an overall color will be applied. Then it will get a wash of paint and wipe to give the appearance of the coat. All the details will be painted with small brushes. Finally, the product is put in a spray booth for the topcoat.

Once dry the product is wrapped in bubble wrap. In the case of the reindeer, it is then placed in a wood crate and held in place with wood bars.
Many of the other products are packed in heavy corrugated cartons with interior cardboard cutouts holding them in place.
There are a number of different ways to pack products from a simple wrap to closed in crates. The factory has developed departments for preparing crates and cartons with inserts.

Elaborate insert and pads are prepared for each product carton.

Finally the product is complete, packed and ready to be loaded in a shipping container.

The Ultimate Guide to Creating a "Santa’s Sleigh" Yard Display
Welcome to the ultimate guide for making this holiday season truly magical with your very own Santa’s Sleigh yard display! Whether you are a seasoned holiday decorator or a first-time enthusiast, this post will walk you through everything you need to know to create a breathtaking scene that will delight neighbors and passbyers alike. From choosing the perfect location to pairing your sleigh with life-size reindeer, we've got you covered. Get ready to transform your yard into a winter wonderland that captures the true spirit of Christmas!
Choosing the Perfect Spot: Lawn vs. Roof
The first step in creating an unforgettable Santa’s Sleigh display is deciding where to place it. Both options have their pros and cons, so let’s explore them:
-
Lawn Display: This is the most popular choice as it allows for a close-up view of all the intricate details of your sleigh and its magical occupants. A lawn display offers a more immersive experience for your visitors, and it's also easier to set up and maintain. Ensure your grass is neat and consider adding fake snow or a charming path to enhance the magical feel.
-
Roof Display: If you’re looking to make a big statement and capture attention from a distance, a roof display is the way to go. Positioning your Santa’s sleigh and reindeer soaring above adds an element of wonder. However, this option requires careful planning, securing, and potential safety considerations. Make sure your roof can safely support the display and that you have a secure method for anchoring everything.
Pairing Your Sleigh with the Right Number of Reindeer
No Santa’s sleigh display is complete without his faithful reindeer. The key is to find the perfect balance that suits your sleigh's size and the overall look you want to achieve. Here are some tips for pairing your sleigh with the right number of reindeer:
-
Small Sleighs: For smaller sleighs, a couple of reindeer can be enough to create a charming scene. Placing one or two reindeer in a flying position or running gracefully alongside the sleigh can be very effective.
-
Medium to Large Sleighs: Larger sleighs naturally demand more reindeer to create a sense of scale and movement. A team of four, six, or even all nine (including Rudolph!) will add a grand and majestic touch to your display. Arrange them in a dynamic "flying" formation to truly capture the magic of Santa’s journey.
-
Mixing and Matching: Don’t be afraid to get creative! You can mix flying reindeer with standing ones, or even incorporate other festive elements like elves or presents to further enhance your display.
Weatherproofing Your Display: A Must-Do Step
To ensure your Santa’s Sleigh display remains magical and safe throughout the holiday season, weatherproofing is crucial. Here’s how you can protect your display from the elements:
-
Securing Everything: High winds can be a major challenge for outdoor displays. Ensure all components are securely anchored to the ground or the roof. Use heavy-duty stakes, guy lines, and sandbags for extra stability. Check and reinforce your anchors regularly, especially before any major weather events.
-
Protecting Electrical Components: If your display includes lighting or other electrical elements, make sure all connections are watertight. Use electrical tape to wrap all plugs and ensure everything is plugged into a GFCI outlet for safety. Consider using weatherproof cord covers and timers to manage your lighting and protect your investment.
-
Managing Snow and Ice: Snow can add a touch of magic to your display, but excessive accumulation can be problematic. Regularly clear heavy snow from your sleigh and reindeer to prevent damage. Be cautious with de-icing agents as some can be harmful to decorations. Consider covering sensitive areas with tarps or moving smaller elements indoors during severe storms.
Conclusion
With careful planning, creative flair, and the right safety measures, you can create a truly spectacular Santa’s Sleigh yard display that will be the talk of the neighborhood. So, gather your festive spirit, get decorating, and watch as your yard transforms into a magical destination that captures the joy and wonder of Christmas!

Tuas Mega Port Singapore - Maggie's Blog Part 10
In 1819 Sir Stamford Raffles founded Singapore by establishing it as a trading post. Singapore is a tiny island nation with no natural resources, no farmland and now no space left to expand. The biggest thing Singapore had going for it was location. It is right beside the Strait of Malacca where 25% of global trade passes. This made it an ideal location for a port. However, as shipping expanded Singapore had to build multiple ports, these ports became congested and expensive to run. Containers often had to be moved across the city from one port to another for reshipping.
Singapore had to rethink the strategy for its container port. Many containers have been rerouted from Singapore to more efficient ports such as Shanghai in China. Christmas Night Inc’s containers no longer pass through Singapore. So, it was sink or find a new way for its container handling. In 2015 Singapore decided to build the Mega port of the future, one port to handle Singapore’s container shipping, bigger and better than any in the world and that is Tuas Mega Port.
It is being built on reclaimed land in the extreme west of downtown Singapore, about an hours drive through an industrial area. Its finished size will be approximately 1,337 hectares (about 3,300 football fields). So far only phase 1 is complete, with several of Singapore’s older ports still operating. And it did appear to me that the Pasir Panjang Port was busier. However, Tuas Mega Port’s advanced automation, AI driven traffic management and electric, driverless vehicles may provide an efficiency that looks smoother and less hectic. Versatile and maneuverable electrified automated yard cranes and automated guided vehicles are managed remotely from the Tuas Port Control Center.
Automation creates concern that technology will take away manual jobs but it also creates the demand for more port operators and marine engineers who are tech-savvy and ready for the future while current maritime workers can upgrade their skills and develop their careers. Phase 2 is due to be completed next year and will provide enough berths to allow for the closing of ports at Tanjong Pagar, Keppel and Brani.
By the 2040s Tuas Mega Port will replace all 5 ports in Singapore, Singapore will have reclaimed its place as the throne of trade, the center of global logistics and the master of global container routing.
Housing and recreational facilities will be developed at the port for workers. And by 2050 there will be zero emissions at Tuas Port. -

Choosing the Perfect Nativity Scene: Size, Style, and Placement
Welcome to our comprehensive guide on choosing the perfect nativity scene for your home or garden. As one of the most beloved and meaningful Christmas traditions, selecting a nativity set is a personal and often emotional process. Whether you’re looking for a delicate tabletop display or a grand, life-size set, this guide will walk you through the key factors to consider, from materials to size and placement. Our goal is to help you find the perfect nativity scene that captures the true essence of the Christmas story and creates a meaningful centerpiece for your holiday celebrations.
Materials: Durability and Style

The material of your nativity scene affects both its appearance and durability, particularly if you plan to display it outdoors. Here are some common materials and their characteristics:
-
Resin: Resin is a popular material for nativity sets due to its versatility and ability to capture intricate details. It’s also durable, making it a good choice for both indoor and outdoor displays. Resin sets come in a wide range of styles, from traditional to contemporary.
-
Fiberglass: For large or life-size outdoor sets, fiberglass is an excellent option. It’s lightweight yet extremely durable, making it easy to move and resistant to the elements. Fiberglass allows for highly detailed and life-like figures that create a powerful and imposing display.
-
Wood: Wooden nativity sets offer a classic and warm aesthetic. They are available in various styles, from intricately carved figures to simpler, folk-art designs. Wood sets are typically best suited for indoor use unless properly treated and protected for outdoor environments.
-
Porcelain and Ceramic: These materials are often used for delicate and highly detailed tabletop sets. They offer a refined and elegant look, making them a popular choice for indoor displays. Due to their fragile nature, they are not recommended for outdoor use.
Size and Placement: A Balancing Act
Choosing the right size and location for your nativity scene is essential for creating a meaningful and visually appealing display. Here are some things to consider:

-
Tabletop Sets: Small to medium-sized sets are perfect for placing on mantles, shelves, tables, or countertops. They allow for a personal and intimate display in your home. Ensure the figures are well-spaced and consider adding simple lighting for a charming effect.
-
Large and Life-Size Sets: Grand, life-size sets create a powerful statement and are ideal for outdoor displays in gardens, on lawns, or even for commercial settings. Placement is key: position the set in a prominent location where it can be seen and appreciated. Ensure you have enough space for the complete set and all associated figures.
-
Choosing the Perfect Spot: Consider visibility and lighting when selecting a location for your nativity scene. Indoors, place it where it can be a central focus of your decorations. Outdoors, choose a prominent spot that’s well-lit for evening viewing. Lighting can significantly enhance the visual impact of your display.
Adding to Your Collection: A Cherished Tradition
For many families, adding a new piece to their nativity scene each year is a cherished and meaningful tradition. This allows your collection to grow over time and creates a sense of legacy and continuity. Consider starting with a basic set of essential figures (Mary, Joseph, and the Baby Jesus) and gradually adding others like the Three Wise Men, shepherds, angels, and animals. Each new piece adds a new layer of meaning and allows your display to evolve with your family’s holiday journey.
Building a Stable: The "Crèche"
The stable, or "Crèche," is a vital part of any nativity scene, providing a sense of place and context for the central figures. Here’s how you can build a stable that complements your display:

-
Simple Barn-Style Stables: For a classic and rustic look, consider building a simple wooden stable with a pitched roof. You can use natural materials like logs, branches, and straw to create an authentic feel. This type of stable works well for both traditional and folk-art sets.
-
Cave-Style Stables: If you’re using a more historical or life-like set, a cave-style stable might be a better choice. You can create this look using textured plaster, foam, or natural rocks. This style is particularly effective for large outdoor sets and adds a sense of realism and historical context.
-
Accessorizing Your Stable: Don't forget to add details to your stable! Scatter straw or hay inside, place a warm, white light above the manger, and consider adding details like pottery, animal troughs, or simple blankets to make the scene more immersive and believable.
Conclusion
With careful consideration of materials, size, placement, and a touch of creativity, you can choose the perfect nativity scene that captures the true essence of the Christmas story. Whether it’s a delicate tabletop display or a grand, life-size set, your nativity scene can become a cherished centerpiece of your holiday decorations, bringing meaning, joy, and a touch of the sacred to your home or garden for years to come.

Chinese Lunar New 2026 Maggies Blog Part 9
This week was the start of Chinese New Year. This is the year of the Fire Horse which has significance in that it only comes around every 60 years. It takes 60 years for the Horse sign to align precisely with the element of fire. The Fire Horse is associated with freedom, speed, energy, intensity, independence and major change.

Chinese New Year is celebrated around the world but most importantly in China where it is celebrated for 15 days, starting this year on February 17 and ending with the Lantern Festival on March 3. It is a time when Asians will travel home to China to celebrate with family. Traditions include cleaning homes, decorating with red lanterns, passing red envelopes, eating dinners of dumplings and fish and putting on lion and dragon dances. Wearing red is significant because red protects against the mythical beast “Nian”. The myth of Nian is about a huge beast who came down from the mountains to devour livestock, crops and villagers. A wise old man found that the color red, the noise of fire crackers, fire and bright lights terrified Nian so that he no longer came down from the mountains to strike fear on them.

Wearing red during Chinese New Year symbolizes happiness, prosperity and good luck and brings positive energy. It will also help to ward off evil spirits.
During my time living in Hong Kong my amah would return to China for the two weeks of the New Year festivities, as did many other Chinese residents who still had family in China. At that time Hong Kong it was still a British Colony however the Lunar New Year was a major public holiday with traditional customs like lion dances and flower markets. Now it is the most important festival in Hong Kong and is celebrated with a huge firework display in Hong Harbour, a night parade in Tsim Sha Tsui and large flower markets.

Cities across USA and the world are celebrating Chinese New Year. For example New York celebrated with vibrant festivities including a fireworks show at Sara D. Roosevelt Park and a Chinatown Lunar New Year Parade and Festival on March 1. Celebrations include cultural events, lion dances, family gatherings, lots of red and lots of energy.

Why February is the Secret Season for Christmas Professionals
The snow may still be on the ground, but for the seasoned decorator, the "Off-Season" is a myth. If you want a display that stops traffic and defines a landscape, you don’t start in November. You start now.
The most breathtaking displays aren’t just "put up"—they are engineered. While the 2025 season is still fresh in your mind, you have a unique, fleeting advantage: you remember exactly where the "dark spots" were.
Identify the "Dark Spots" Before They Fade

We’ve all been there: it’s December 20th, and you realize the left wing of the plaza looks sparse, or the entrance to the estate lacks the "wow" factor needed to anchor the design.
In the heat of the season, we make mental notes to fix it "next year." But by July, those specific details are gone. Use this month to:
Audit your flow: Where did people stop to take photos? Where did they walk past without looking?
Check your scale: Did that 4-foot soldier look swallowed up by the architecture? Maybe it’s time for a 6.5ft Life-Size Nutcracker to truly command the space.
Assess your staples: Is your Nativity set showing its age? Commercial-grade fiberglass holds its luster for years, but these heritage pieces require early logistics to ensure they arrive in time for your 2026 build.
The "Wish List" Strategy: Engineering Your 2026 Scale
Scaling a display isn't just about buying more lights; it's about strategic focal points. Here is how to use the "Wish List" Strategy to ensure 2026 is your most impactful year yet:
Strategy Step Action Item Why It Matters The Anchor Select one "Mega Piece" (e.g., a 12ft Tree or Commercial Nativity). This dictates the theme and scale for everything else. The Transition Identify "Dark Spots" in walkways. Ensures a cohesive experience from the moment a guest arrives. The Photo-Op Place a high-detail character (like a Regal Nutcracker) at eye level. Social media engagement is the best ROI for any display. The Logistics Order custom or large-scale items by Q2. Avoid the "out of stock" heartbreak of October. Quality Takes Time (And Planning)
At Christmas Night Inc., we specialize in pieces that are built to endure. Whether you are looking for the reverent detail of a life-size Nativity or the whimsical grandeur of our toy soldier collection, these items are investments in your brand or home’s legacy.
By planning in February, you aren't just beating the rush; you are securing the inventory that others will be scrambling for come autumn. You are ensuring that when the first frost hits in 2026, your "dark spots" are gone, replaced by brilliant, engineered holiday magic.
Pro Tip: Take photos of your 2025 teardown today. Mark them up with digital "red ink" to show exactly where your new 2026 additions will live.
