Christmas in Manhattan Maggie's Blog Part 8

A visit to Manhattan this December reveals the amazing decorations in the City.  We were not alone thousands of visitors roamed the streets especially Fifth Avenue.  After settling into our hotel and having lunch we set off to view some of the best decorations in Manhattan.  Our first stop was the Metropolitan Museum of Art.  Before even entering we were awed by Jeffrey Gibson's witty artworks including a deer, a coyote, a squirrel and a hawk.  Here is Gibson's deer:

Inside the Met I visited the Medieval Sculpture Hall where I found the 20 foot Christmas tree adorned with silk-robed Angels and surrounded by a Neapolitan Baroque Creche.  In addition to the usual figures of the Holy Family, the Three Kings and Shepherds the creche contains many villagers and animals:

We left the Met and drove across Central Park and around Columbus Circle to Fifth Avenue.  We decided to get out at Saks and walk back to Central Park.  The crowds were huge and the side walks were barricaded off.  Every evening Saks Fifth Avenue has a light show which is repeated every 10 minutes.

We made our way up Fifth Avenue darting in and out of the crowds.  At Trump Tower they are displaying our Toy Soldiers with Trumpets:

Next on our list were the windows at Bergdorf Goodman.  They are magical and with every year that passes they seem to become more incredible:

We also saw this Louis Vuitton display which was at least 10 floors high.

Next on our list was Hudson Yards, which was somewhat disappointing after Fifth Avenue.  Here are several of the Christmas Decorations we found at Hudson Yards:

By now we were overwhelmed with the crowds, the music and the hustle so it was time to return to our hotel and get ready for dinner.  We ate in our hotel in the new Bazaar Meat by Jose Andres.  It was a wonderful birthday treat for me:

It snowed overnight.  I was up and out to see the snow at the Flower District on 28th Street:

And Union Square where the trees were magical:

We had lunch at Gramercy Tavern which is a favorite and their decorations didn't disappoint:

A very brief but wonderful tip to the city to see the Christmas decorations was complete until next year.  We will be off to Las Vegas next week and I am sure will have lots of exiting Christmas decor to share with you.
